There were two services in the benefice on Ash Wednesday (18th Feb) – at 10.30 am in Kimbolton and at 19.30 in Spaldwick. Both were very well attended, and were opportunities to receive both holy communion and the ‘imposition of ashes.’
At the evening service the benefice choir was the largest turnout ever, with over twenty voices; and six out of seven of our parishes were represented in the whole congregation.
The House group this week re-convenes after the Christmas and New Year break. The passage for study is Luke 2.8-20
Following a recent Churchwardens’ meeting for the whole of our newly enlarged benefice a new pattern of services launches in the new year.
As from January 2015 Spaldwick’s main service time moves to the 10.45 slot alongside Kimbolton. This means that there will always be a 10.45 at each of our two ‘hub’ churches, and there will always be a Eucharist (Communion service) at one or the other. Most of our other smaller village churches now have a regular slot at 9.30 am, with two exceptions: Stow Longa who have opted for one 9.30 and one evening service a month; and Barham, whose only change is from the first Sunday to the Third at the same time of 11.00 am.
You can see the whole pattern on the ‘Services’ page of this website.
Friday 12th September an encouraging number of Stow Longa residents and friends gathered at the church of St Botolph for a splendid paella and wine evening to elect the first ever committee for the “Friends of St Botolph’s”. The new committee includes long-standing residents and a widespread age range who are keen to explore the possible future uses of the building and fundraising activities to support the church. Watch this space, as they say!
What an absolutely marvellous concert for a Spring afternoon.
Both Kate & Stephen were on excellent form.
Well done to you both, bring on the next one!!
